One Life to Live

History of One Life to Live

One Life to Live has been on ABC Television since 1968 and it is replayed nightly on Soap Net. The show is set in the town of Llanview, Pennsylvania and focuses on the Lord family and the Siegels. The character of Viki Lord has been featured prominently throughout the run of the show. Viki has been through the gamut of loss and sorrow during her time on the show and has notably been plagued with multiple personality disorder.

Through the years, the characters from All My Children and One Life to Live have visited with each other as the towns are located in close proximity to each other. There have been extensive plots between the two soaps involving more than twenty different characters. Even Dr. Steve Hardy was brought into Llanview to consult on a medical case involving the character of Meredith Lord Wolek. All of this crossover has led many fans of one show becoming involved in the plot on another. This has been an ingenious technique that has brought a great deal of success to the network.

The show is featured on Soap Net during weeknights along with the other ABC daytime series. The soap operas on ABC tend to be viewed by a younger audience than the other networks. One Life to Live added to the youth oriented programming on the network and added to the soap opera line up.

Over the years the soap operas have experimented with run times and changes in the lineup to encourage viewers to watch the next show instead of changing the channels. This has led to a loyal audience of viewers who watch the entire ABC Television lineup during the daytime hours. Between the crossovers from the characters and the changes in timing, the network has been very successful in attracting their following.
